An animation of an aurochs running
I have not seen an anatomically correct animation of an aurochs yet, so I decided to try one myself. I made a little video of an aurochs bull running. It was done by making animated GIF consisting of 16 drawings of the same individual during running, based on a GIF of an American bison running. I converted the GIF into a video, and here is the result:
Knap gedaan.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful animation. The short body allows a grace which I do not see in running domestic cattle. Here is a You Tube film of Gaur wild cattle doing the high-jump. I wonder if any breed of domestic cattle could do the same or if their long bodies and relatively short legs would hinder them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo5oARnkbrk

This probably runs more like a bison than an aurochs. Bison are specially adapted for running, and that combined with their distinct shape may make them poor models for cursorial movement in aurochs. A Chianina bull or even a gaur may have been a better model imo.
ReplyDeleteCompare it to those Camargue running: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQWzHMZWVsE Looks roughly the same as my animation. I think all bovines run in a very similar manner.
DeleteGreat animation but judging from running bulls in Pamplona f.ex. the head should be bobbing a bit.
